Character Stats
Character Stats refer to the parameters of each character, influencing their capabilities.
Battle stats
Hit Points
Each character has a Hit Points value determining how much damage they can take before being Downed. Typically, when all enemies either flee or run out of HP, the player wins the battle, but if all of the player's characters are Downed, the player receives a Game Over.
Attack
Attack, informally called Physical Attack, is how much damage the character can inflict by default with the Attack Command or other physical attacks before the Defense stat and any multipliers. Triple Move attacks are physical combining the heroes' individual damage before multipliers amounts against the target, and enemies may have physical attacks with damage multipliers.
Geno provides the Ally Buff for Attack in the Switch version, at a rate of +3% at 2 Chain, +6% subject to potential 1 point reduction by float number error at 3~4 Chain, or +12% at 5+ Chain. Shooting Star Shot automatically applies the 5+ Chain bonus to its applicants while the benefit is active.
Defense
Defense, informally called Physical Defense, is used to resist physical attacks. The value is how much of the enemy's default damage with a physical attack is subtracted to determine the damage before multipliers. If the target's Defense is equal to or greater than the caster's Attack, the full damage will be set to 0. Note that the total damage will still floor at 1 if the target isn't under some form of invincibility to the attack.
Bowser provides the Ally Buff for Defense in the Switch version, at a rate of +10% at 2 Chain, +20% at 3~4 Chain, or +25% at 5+ Chain.
Mg. Attack
Magic Attack (abbreviated in-game) boosts Special usage, determining how much is added to the Magic Power of a Special for the damage before the Magic Defense stat and any multipliers, informally known as Total Magic Attack. The player's Specials have various timing multipliers.
Mallow provides the Ally Buff for Magic Attack (but not Magic Power) in the Switch version, at a rate of +10% at 2 Chain, +20% at 3~4 Chain, or +25% at 5+ Chain. Shooting Star Shot, for as long as the benefit is active, auto-applies +12% to its applicants as a minimum, overriding the 2 Chain bonus but also being overriden by the Timing Chain bonus at 3+ Chain if Mallow is active and not Downed.
Mg. Defense
Magic Defense (abbreviated in-game) is used to resist magic attacks. The value is how much of the enemy's Total Magic Attack with a Special is subtracted to determine the damage before multipliers. If the target's Magic Defense is equal to or greater than the caster's Total Magic Attack, the full damage will be set to 0. Note that fully calculated damage will still floor at 1 if the target isn't under some form of invincibility to the attack.
Magic Defense is ignored by healing Specials.
Peach provides the Ally Buff for Magic Defense in the Switch version, at a rate of +10% at 2 Chain, +20% at 3~4 Chain, or +25% at 5+ Chain.
Speed
Speed is used to determine turn order, starting from highest value of the the characters going first for a turn cycle. Ties will favor enemies over the player's characters.
Geno provides the Ally Buff for Speed in the Switch version, at a rate of +10% at 2 Chain, +20% at 3~4 Chain, or +24% at 5+ Chain. Geno's Speed increasing Ally Buff in the Switch version immediately influences the turn order upon the Timing Chain update, although the new Speed values have the decimal truncation be handled before the game checks for who goes first, causing any lead by only a decimal amount such as 0.8 to count as a tie (eg. Peach at default Speed (24) and 3~4 Chain (28.8) will still be outprioritized by Lakitu (28)).
Physical Evade
The hidden stat informally called Physical Evade is how much of a chance an enemy will have of causing the Attack command to Miss them beyond the innate 1% chance of a Miss.
Magic Evade
The hidden stat informally called Magic Evade (SNES only) is how much of a chance an enemy will have of causing an imperfect accuracy Special (Terrorize, Poison Gas, Sleepy Time, and Mute) to Miss them beyond their own innate Miss chances.
